The Nadi Weather office has issued a flash flood warning for people living in low lying areas of Vanualevu and Western parts of Viti Levu.

Director Rajendra Prasad said an active weather system is slowly moving onto the group from the North which will later affect Vitilevu and other parts of the country.

He adds winds are expected to intensify later today as the Tropical Depression situated to the West of Vanuatu continues to move towards the Fiji group.

Meanwhile, some parts of Western Division are experiencing slight rainfall and cloudy conditions.

Heavy rain is being experienced in the Northern and Western Divisions as the Nadi Weather office issued a Flash flood and strong wind warning for most parts of the country.

Duty Weather forcasters confirmed this morning that an active South Pacific Convergence Zone with associated cloud and rain is slowly moving onto the group from the North.

A strong wind warning also remains in force for all Fiji waters.

Waiqele and nearby areas in Labasa experienced heavy downpour this morning however there was no reports of flash flooding.

A resident of Waiqele Labasa, Anuj Sharma told Fijivillage news that heavy rainfall and strong winds was experienced and people were preparing themselves to move to higher grounds.

There are also reports of heavy rainfall in the Western Division however there are no reports of flooding.

Forecasters say from midnight tonight there will be rain, heavier at times and squally thunderstorms for Navua, Suva, Nausori, Nadi Lautoka, Ba, over Vanualevu including Labasa Savusavu, Taveuni, Northern Lau, the Yasawas and Northern Vitilevu and flooding of low lying areas is expected.

A strong wind warning also remains in force for all Fiji waters.

Meanwhile, A low pressure system located close to Vanuatu is expected to form into a tropical depression as it nears the Fiji later this week and will bring strong winds for most parts of the country. People living in low lying areas have been urged to make necessary preparations.
