Police will step up operations in the next few weeks to monitor the school athletics zone competitions that are being held around the country.

This is after concerns have been raised that students from several schools in the Triple N Zone were stomping and cheering unnecessarily in buses.

These students were also waving their flags while the bus was moving.

Acting Chief Operations Officer, ACP Biu Matavou said schools should monitor their students and ensure that they are not involved in these activities when they finish from the respective athletics zone competitions.

He said individual bus drivers should also take on the responsibility of discouraging students from waving their flags while buses are moving.

Matavou is urging students to refrain from doing this as it is for their own safety.

He said Police will be monitoring the Suva Zone One and Zone Two which will be held this Thursday and Friday.
