A group of fishermen are stranded in Kadavu after their boat and fishing equipment were seized by villagers from Dravuni claiming that they were fishing illegally in their Qoliqoli.
Kadavu police are investigating the case after claims by the owner of the boat that the villagers are now demanding $30,000 in order to return their boat and fishing gear.
According to police the villagers are taking shelter at Nabouwalu village in Ono since last week when the alleged incident occurred.
The Fisheries Ministry is expected to comment on the issue later today.
