South Africa have won their first rugby sevens title in two years beating Fiji 24-14 in the final of the Las Vegas leg of the world series.

Fiji beat New Zealand 26-7 in the semi finals to advance to the tournament final.

The South African’s dominated possession throughout the final with playmaker Cecil Africa turning on a commanding performance.

The coach of South Africa Paul Treu said the win will give his side some much needed self confidence.

New Zealand and England still share the overall series lead with 80 points, Fiji and Samoa are tied on 64 points while South Africa has 56 points.

Samoa took out the Plate final after they beat Kenya, 26-15, and Scotland took out the Bowl after they beat Canada, 19-14.

The next tournament will be held in Hong Kong from March 25-27.
