The first stage of initial damage assessments brought about by Hurricane Tomas has been completed.

In the latest situation report, DISMAC has put the estimated cost of damage to various sectors at $67 million.

The worst affected is the agricultural sector recording the most damage of more than $53 million, bulk of which was recorded in the Northern Division with $49.6 million worth of damage to agricultural produce.

Roads and infrastructure damage now stands at $9.6 million.

The Education sector recorded damage of $1.5 million, while damage to health infrastructure stands at $1.4 million.

Meanwhile, with reports stating that a total of 509 homes have been totally destroyed in both the Northern and Eastern Division, DISMAC’s Acting Director Pajiliai Dobui said help should be coming to those affected, if possible, as soon as next week.
