The appointment of the Interim Health Minister Dr. Jiko Luveni to the National Security Council, as the first woman in the Council, has been met with mixed reaction from the women's organisation's in the country.

The Soqosoqo Vakamarama has applauded her appointment saying she brings with her a wealth of experience as she has represented Fiji in the World Population Fund medical profession.

General Secretary Adi Finau Tabakaucoro said there is very little involvement of women in the decision making roles and this is a step forward for them.

Luveni was appointed following the Interim Cabinet's approval yesterday after she made a submission saying women in the country needed representation on the National Council.
