The general public is being urged to comply with the regulation set by the Mineral Resource Department in relation to the use of fireworks during Diwali celebrations.

The use of fireworks will be restricted to the hours of 5pm until 12 midnight on Diwali night.

The Mineral Resource Department has also confirmed that the using of fireworks at any other time prior to Diwali will be restricted to between the hours of 5pm and 10pm.

Senior officer at the department Venasio Nasara confirmed members of the public caught using fireworks outside of the permitted hours will be liable to pay a fine of $400.

Nasara added those shops and outlets selling banned fireworks will be liable to pay a fine of $800.

Diwali will be celebrated this Saturday.
