Fireworks did not cause the 60 percent burns that resulted in the death of 8 year old Karan Prasad on Diwali night as claimed.
This has been confirmed by Permanent Secretary Lands and Mineral Resources Maria Matavewa who said the Mines Division had conducted tests with the same type of fire cracker used and the tests found that the firecracker could not have caused 60 percent burns on the boy but less than 1 percent burns.
Matevewa said that police investigations would determine the real cause of Prasad's death and what caused him to suffer 60 percent burns.
Prasad was admitted at the ICU last Tuesday night after receiving 60% burns allegedly from firecracker.
Police spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri said investigations into what happened that night resulting in the boy's death are still continuing.
