The National Fire Authority has reiterated their call to store flammable liquids in a proper storage area.

The call comes after firefighters managed to avert a major disaster at Churchill Park Stadium this morning. NFA Lautoka received the call at 9 in the morning from a bystander and upon arrival fire crew saw smoke coming out of the Storage compartment of the Stadium.

The whole room was ablaze and dangerously threatened the complex due to the highly flammable liquids in the store room. There were several containers of flammable liquids in the store room and when firefighters got to the scene, the drum that contained the deposes was on the verge of exploding.

NFA's preliminary investigation indicates that the probable cause of the fire was from benzene fuel vapor which spilled on the floor and caught fire, when it reached nearby kerosene stove which was cooking a pot of tea.
