The buying, selling and use of firecrackers will be strictly monitored.
This has been confirmed by the Permanent Secretary Lands and Mineral Resources Maria Matavewa when questioned on whether or not firecrackers would be banned after 8 year old Karan Prasad died after allegedly receiving 60 percent burns from using firecrackers on Diwali night.
However, Matavewa had confirmed that after tests conducted by the Mines Division, the firecracker called Blue Hurricane, did not cause the 60 percent burns which caused Prasad's death.
She said that according to tests, while the firecracker did cause fabric burns, he did not receive extensive burns from it.
Prasad was admitted at the ICU at the CWM last Tuesday night where he died.
Police Spokesperson Atunaisai Sokumuri said investigations into the matter are continuing.
