The Mines Division of the Mineral Resources Department and Police have intensified their investigations following the death of eight year old Karan Prasad of Waila, Nausori who was burnt while using firecrackers on Diwali night.

Karan passed away at the CWM Hospital at around 11.25 last night.

Divisional Crime Officer Eastern, ASP Ramesh Chand confirms the officials of the Mineral Resources Department and Police were at the scene over the weekend and took some firecrackers to conduct checks.

Chand said police are also recording statements of family members. According to Chand, they will await the post mortem results which are expected to be conducted later today before carrying out further investigations.

Karan was admitted at the ICU last Tuesday after receiving 60% burns.

Meanwhile, Karan's father, Hardeo Prasad has called on authorities to put a complete ban on firecrackers.

He said he has lost his youngest son and authorities should act now.
