Some fire incidents may not be avoidable but it becomes the responsibility of the public to ensure that their electrical appliances and stoves are switched off when not in use.

Those were the words of National Fire Authority (NFA) Corporate Affairs Manager Mileta Ting following three fire incidents over the weekend and one yesterday morning that left nine people homeless.

There were three separate fire incidents in Lami, Caubati and Herrick Place off Service Street.

A two bedroom home was destroyed in fire in Caubati, in Lami a bottom flat of a double storey house was attended to by fire fighters and preliminary investigations into the incident indicates that the cause of fire was arson as a result of burglary.

In another incident a family had to vacate the house after a closet located in one of the bedrooms caught fire which is believed to have started from a bulb located in the cupboard.

Ting said people should act quickly in case of a fire.
