A fire today in Kaunitino Street in Waiyavi Lautoka left a family homeless.

The National Fire Authority said that by the time fire officers reached the area the house was completely engulfed in fire.

No one was at home at the time of the incident.

Quick and skillful action by the NFA saved the fire from spreading to the nearby homes which were attached to the house.

NFA's investigations indicate that the fire started in the Kitchen and the suspected cause of the fire was unattended cooking.

NFA Chief Fire Officer Mr Tupou Saubulinayau said that NFA continued to emphasize the need for the cook to stay in the kitchen until the food is cooked as unattended cooking is a growing concern in the country which now is becoming one of the major causes of home fires in Fiji.
