The National fire Authority has raised serious concerns after firefighters were allegedly stoned while attending to a fire report in Navua at the weekend.

Chief Fire Officer Mark Reid has revealed that the Navua Fire Brigade received a call of a house which was engulfed in flames in Naitonitoni and they were initially given a wrong address.

Reid said when they did arrive at the scene, the crew was then faced with difficulties in getting water as there are no fire hydrants in the area.

Reid said water was sourced from a creek and while officers were risking their lives in trying to put out the fire they were allegedly pelted with stones. He said the Office in Charge of Navua and his crew received injuries after being hit with stones by by-standers.

Reid said the NFA will not tolerate any attacks on their officers since they are the ones who risk their lives to save others and the public should understand that they will do the best they can with the available resources.

Police are yet to comment on the incident.
