Twelve people are today homeless after a fire last night destroyed their homes in Kukusau road, Nadawa.

The National Fire Authority confirmed that it received the emergency call at 11.40pm that two homes were on fire.

Firefighters quickly controlled the blaze and stopped its further spread to nearby homes.

Destroyed in the fire were a wooden 3-bedroom house and a corrugated iron 3-bedroom structure housing two families.

The estimated value of damages is $130,000.

Meanwhile, police believe the fire started from a candle left burning in one of the rooms, however police are still investigating.
