Fire Drill Held To Ensure Safety
These are the words of Bligh Water Shipping Chief Executive Abraham Simpson at the first fire drill exercise onboard the M.V. Suilven at the Narayan Jetty today.
He added this is in-line with the International Safety Management Code which is not a requirement for Fiji yet, but they have decided to adopt the practice as the Company views the safety of passengers as their number one priority.
Simpson said they will review the exercise and have discussions with Fiji Island Maritime Safety Administration on areas to improve on.
Major programs funded by the Asia Development Bank and the Fiji government is currently underway in the Western and Northern Divisions.
Works Ministry Spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete said this is a long term sustainable program which will ensure the changing of old water pipelines adding that these programs will be completed in the next two to five years to end water problems once and for all.
She also said the old pipes cannot cater for the water demand due to the increase in population and thus new pipes are needed.
