Fill enough fuel boat drivers told
Those were sentiments made by Lamiti, Gau villager, Livai Bainivalu, one of the 10 survivors from a fiber-glass boat that went adrift for more than 10 hours yesterday.
Bainivalu said that one of the main lessons he learnt from the incident is that they should always store enough fuel supply on long trips like the one they took on Saturday morning.
The Lamiti native also stressed that all fiber-glass owners should also see that their outboard engine is well serviced in case there is some engine problem, so that they do not encounter such problems.
Another point raised by Bainivalu is that the respective authorities should see that outer islands are serviced well, as he stated that the ship only comes to the island, once in a month, therefore the islanders resort to travelling in their fiber-glass.
Bainivalu was among the 10 passengers on a fiber-glass boat that left Qarani, Gau at 4:30am on Saturday morning and arrived safely to shore after being adrift for more than 10hours.
The group was on their way to Suva for a celebration of the "Lamiti Day", to fundraise for village developments.
