The Ministry of Education is calling on all teachers who inflicts corporal punishment on any student will have to face the consequences of their actions by the Court of Law.

In a statement, Interim Minister for Education Filipe Bole had warned the teachers that corporal punishment was declared illegal by Justice Jayant Prakash at the Lautoka Court in 2002 and time and time again the Ministry has been reminding teachers of the " No Corporal Punishment" directive.

Bole said Principals and Head Teachers are to be vigilant and address this highly sensitive issue and nip it in the bud, instead of sweeping it under the carpet.

The warning comes after a student of Bua College was punched by a teacher last week and the matter is under investigation.
