The Fijian government has endorsed the National Fisheries Policy 2024–2028, setting a strategic framework for the sustainable management of the country’s fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
With a focus on economic growth and food security, the policy outlines key strategies across various areas including offshore fisheries, aquaculture and coastal and inland fisheries.
The policy emphasizes community-based management, modernization of legislation, and environmental sustainability while also addressing cross-sectoral issues like marine spatial management and gender and youth involvement.
This initiative is the result of extensive stakeholder consultations and aligns with both national and international goals.
