A former Chief Executive of the Sugar Cane Growers Council said two years on and there is not even a road map to General Elections in the immediate future and this could see a very bleak future for the cane farmers.
Jaganath Sami, who was forcefully removed from office after December 5th 2006, said cane farmers, mill workers, cane cutters, transport workers and others totaling 40,000 families have their futures at risk with the high possibility of the loss of the $350 million EU grant.
Sami said early general elections will save the sugar industry.
However, Information Ministry Deputy Secretary, Major Neumi Leweni on Fiji's return to parliamentary democracy has stressed Government's vision of an all inclusive society which is continuously promoted by the Draft People's Charter.
Leweni said this also includes the appointment of the Constituency Boundaries Commission, the Supervisor of Elections and most importantly Electoral reforms that focuses on doing away with race based politics.
