The Flying Fijians are now gearing up to face Samoa in a tie that could yet have a huge influence in the outcome of this year's IRB Pacific Nations Cup.

The Junior All Blacks currently lie top of the standings after three wins, but they still have to play against the unpredictable Tongans, who first line up today against Japan.

Based on results so far, the gap between the tier two unions and the second string line-ups of the games superpowers has all but closed.

There is still some way to go, but Samoa went down to the Junior All Blacks by a single point on the first match day and none of the games have been one-sided.

On top of the advances being made in Samoa, Fiji, Tonga and Japan, the new condensed tournament format also seems conducive to more competitive rugby.

IRB's General Manager for Oceania, Will Glenwright said this year's Pacific Nations Cup has been a great success.

He said today's two games will also be a mouth-watering clash.
