The Indigenous Fijian society and the churches have failed in their roles in working closely with those who are on the wrong side of the law.

These are the words of Prison Commissioner Iowane Naivalurua who said that 80% of those who are in prison are Fijian and 81% are Christian and the biggest question that needs to be asked is whether these people are accepted by the vanua and church when they are released.

He said that working with the inmates is not easy as they are dealing with human beings and the society should change their view and try to work closely with them.

The Prisons Commissioner said that while today marks the 1st anniversary of the Yellow Ribbon project, they are still a long way from achieving their goal.
