A father and a former Fiji resident is shattered after the loss of his only son who was allegedly stabbed to death by his partner in Petone, New Zealand last night.

Stuff.co reports that New Zealand police have launched a homicide investigation after the incident which has ended with the man’s partner in custody. 

It has also been confirmed that the man was a member of the Mongrel Mob. 

Speaking to Fijivillage from New Zealand in the last hour, the father of 30-year-old Vashaun Varma, Rajesh Varma said the last time he was in touch with his son was when they were texting each other last night.


Varma said his son, Vashaun was unemployed and has left behind an 18-month-old baby who they are now looking after. 


Police were initially called to an altercation between the 30-year-old and his partner at about 10.30pm. 

Ambulance staff then called police to say a man had been stabbed. 

Rajesh Varma said even though Vashaun was in the Mongrel Mob, he was a pleasant one.

Mongrel Mob associate Peter Paul said he was shocked to hear of his friend’s death. 

Members of the gang gathered at the scene about 2.30am after news of the death spread on Facebook.

Preparations are being made for Varma’s tangi.
 
Varma was serving 10 months’ home detention when he died. 

He had pleaded guilty to blackmail, assault and willful damage.
