A Fijian soldier who pulled off a man's turban during an Edinburgh nightclub scuffle has been fined 280 Euros.

29 year old Ratu Yavala from Fiji had just returned from fighting in Iraq with the first Scots Regiment when he went out in Edinburgh.

Yavala pleaded guilty to the charges.

Yavala who is based at Dreghorn Barracks near Edinburgh, shouted and swore at the Sikh man before pulling off his turban and calling him a racist name.

Yavala later told Police he had attacked the man, because he did not like a person wearing a turban.

The Court was told that Yavala was drunk during the time of the assault.
