This year people will be able to browse the internet in the Fijian language.

A group of Information and Communication Technology experts at the company Avonsys, are translating Mozzilla Firefoz, which is currently an English language web browser, into the Fijian language.

Chief Technology Officer, Frank Martin says the project aims to retain the technical meaning of the original English version and be understandable by the end users who speak Fijian.

Martin says they have seen many people emailing, blogging and chatting with friends in Fijian adding these people would like to see more web tools in Fijian and so this is an opportunity.

This project is funded by the Internet Society and the Pacific Islands Chapter of the Internet Society.

Today, Avonsys made an alpha release of the project to get feedback from its users before the final version is launched later this year.
