Fijian Identity Cannot Be Robbed
This is the view of the National Council for Building a Better Fiji referring to Ro Filipe Tuisawau's recent comments on issues such as electoral reforms, land, race and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous people.
In a statement released, the Council said the Fijians are proud of their identity and they do not need provincial and communal electoral systems to preserve their identity.
The Council said Ro Tuisawau asserts that any move to review the electoral system to make it fairer, more democratic and responsive, will be resisted by the indigenous Fijians.
According to the Council he has tried to turn people away from being constructive on an issue of importance to Fijians and Fiji adding he is insulting the intelligence of the Fijian people.
The Council reiterates that we need to get rid of race based divisive politics and policies, and to achieve that we need to reform our electoral system.
In reply, Ro Filipe Tuisawau questions the NCBBF on their representation base and reiterates that the group is illegal.
He said on the problems with the Electoral System, the NCBBF has no mandate from the people and he challenges the NCBBF to an open public debate on issues regarding race, the GCC, the People's Charter and the electoral system.
