The Instrument of Independence, otherwise known as the original Fijian Deed of Cession will be retrieved by a government delegation led by the Interim Education, National Heritage Culture and Arts.

In a statement released, Filipe Bole and the delegation leave for Levuka this afternoon to bring the document, said to be more important than the actual Deed of Cession, back to Suva for tests and possible restorative works at the National Archives of Fiji.

The document was proven to be the real deal when a government archivist visited Levuka. The other original is held at the National Archives in the United Kingdom.

An official handing over of the document to the delegation will be held at Nasova following a traditional presentation to the Tui Levuka tomorrow.
