Talks are now progressing between the interim government and officials from the Chinese government in relation to a huge soft loan from China to assist in building low cost housing and upgrading Fiji's rural infrastructure.
The consular of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Fiji, Fei Ming Xing said a total of 3 billion in Chinese currency has been allocated by the Chinese government for soft loans to the Pacific region.
Xing said he is not aware whether Fiji has made the loan application but talks are definitely underway.
During his visit to Nubuyanitu in Navosa earlier this week, Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama said a total of 240 million dollars would be provided by the Government of China to undertake rural development.
Bainimarama said the development in rural areas will be the top priority of the interim government and development would be Fiji wide.
The Interim Prime Minister assured the people of Nubuyanitu that they would be included in the development plans for 2009 which would focus on the rural areas. He confirmed that an approval has been made for road development in the areas of Navosa.
Bainimarama said the People's Charter is the only way forward for Fiji as it would bring peace, prosperity and would also take away racial discrimination in the country.
Meanwhile village spokesperson, Peni Dakua said maybe it’s time for a change as politicians who visited them for campaigns always failed in their promises.
Nubuyanitu village is about 90 kilometres from Sigatoka town.
