The Vodafone Fiji 7s team has won the 2016 Oceania 7s after defeating Samoa 28-19 in the final.
The national side were clinical and brutal as they outclassed the Samoans with four tries to three.
Fiji led 14-5 at half time with tries from Kalione Nasoko and veteran winger Joeli Lutumailagi while Samoa's try was scored by Gordon Langkilde.
Risiate Tadulala scored Fiji's first try in the second half before Samoa came back strongly with two tries from winger Samoa Toloa.
Toloa's try closed the score line to a four point gap and also gave the Samoans a fighting chance to upset the Olympic Gold Medalist.
With 40 seconds to go, Kitione Taliga broke through the Samoan defence to seal the win for Fiji.
Fiji 7s coach Nacanieli Cawanibuka believes this is a good boost for the team as they have two weeks to prepare for the Dubai 7s.
The Dubai 7s will be held on the 2nd and 3rd of next month. Fiji is the defending champion.
Meanwhile, the Telecom Fijiana were hammered 31-0 by Australia in the women’s competition last night, this was Fiji’s only loss in the Women’s final match.
