Team Fiji has topped the medal standings at the 8th Pacific Mini Games and finished with a total of 32 gold, 26 silver and 20 bronze to maintain first place.

Fiji, who last won the Pacific Games in 2001, claimed the title after beating rivals New Caledonia and Tahiti on the overall medal tally.

New Caledonia settled for second on 23 gold, 21 silver and 22 bronze and Tahiti finished third on 21 gold, 22 silver and 17 bronze.

Athletics contributed a lot to the success after bagging in 18 gold, 9 silver and 7 bronze while weightlifting was second best, raking in 8 gold medals in the second week of competition.

Team Fiji will now set its target on the 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia.
