Fiji was not under any real threat of being hit by a big tsunami although Fiji was part of the list of countries that were issued with a tsunami warning.

We spoke to a scientist on duty at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii, Barry Hirshorn.

We asked him specifically about Fiji and the tsunami warning which is in place.

Hirshorn told us that Fiji would not get a big tsunami.

Hirshorn confirms that the warning was procedural for Fiji. He says the highest wave could have been about a metre high.

Meanwhile Hirshorn said it was a different story for Samoa and American Samoa.

Some areas in these two countries have been severely affected.
