The Fiji 7s team has turned on its magic button in the USA 7s as predicted by Fiji rugby’s National Coaching Director, Frank Boivert.

The Digicel Fiji 7s team has already put one foot in the Cup quarterfinals of the USA 7s after a 14-12 nail biting win over Scotland in the second pool match.

Samisoni Viriviri and Ilai Tina scored the only tries for Fiji in the first half as Fiji led 14-7 at half time.

Scotland came with a never say die approach and kept pressuring the Fiji defense throughout and in the process Fiji conceded seven penalties.

Scotland managed to score one more try in the second half after Nemani Nagusa got sin binned for ill-discipline.

But, Fiji was lucky enough to escape with a win after Scotland failed to convert a penalty in the last seconds of the match.

Fiji earlier beat England 26-17 in the first pool match.

Sheer determination and hard hitting tackles were the main features of the Fiji 7s team today which lacked last week in Wellington.

In the match against England, Setefano Cakau scored the first try and Samisoni Viriviri scored two tries as Fiji led 21-5 at half time.

England scored two tries early in the second half to close the gap 21-17 and soon after playmaker, Joji Raqamate was sin binned for a dangerous tackle.

Lomaiviti speedster, Benito Eremasi came off the bench and scored a try in the dying stages to seal a 26-17 win for Fiji.

Here at home, FRU’s National Coaching Director, Frank Boivert said part of his game plan has been implemented and part of it remains to be seen.
