The Digicel Fiji 7s team has progressed to the Cup semifinals of the USA 7s after a close 21-19 win over USA in the quarterfinals.

Jasa Veremalua got the first try for Fiji but USA kept the pressure coming and leveled scores at the half time mark.

Ilai Tinai got the second try for Fiji just at the start of the second half but USA had other ideas and replied with a try soon after.

One of the new players in the team Jone Vota got the third try for Fiji.

USA managed to get a late try but was unsuccessful with the conversion allowing Fiji to progress to the semis.

Fiji will play New Zealand at 7.32am tomorrow in the first Cup semifinal and Samoa will take on South Africa in the second Cup semifinal at 7.54am.

Meanwhile, in three other Cup quarterfinals today, New Zealand beat Canada 17-nil, Samoa beat Scotland 12-5 while South Africa defeated Wales 26-nil.

The Cup final will be played at 10.25am tomorrow.
