The Vodafone Fiji 7s team is through to the quarter finals of the Hong Kong 7s after defeating New Zealand 17 14 in their last pool match.
Fiji tops pool C to meet Canada while New Zealand will also go through to meet South Africa in the quarters.
Fiji’s first try was scored by Waisea Nacuqu within the first 8 seconds of the game.
New Zealand’s new star and Fiji-born Joe Ravouvou capitalized on the outside to outpace Osea Kolinisau giving the All Blacks a ray of hope in the first half.
Nacuqu came back to score a well worked try as Fiji led 12 7 at half time.
The second half saw New Zealand score first and this put them in the lead.
Vatemo Ravouvou then scored Fiji’s last try to seal the win.
Fiji will meet Canada at 3.20pm in the second quarterfinal.
In the other quarters, Australia will take on Argentina and USA will meet England while New Zealand will face South Africa.
Barring any upsets, Fiji is likely to meet Australia or Argentina in the semifinal, England, South Africa or New Zealand in the final.
The quarterfinals will start at 2.58pm today, the semifinals will start at 7.31pm while the medal final will be held at 11 tonight.
