The Fiji Airway Men’s National 7s side will take on Australia in the first quarterfinal of the Sydney 7s at 1.16pm today.

They earlier thrashed Japan 34‑5 in their first pool match, struggled to defeat England 14‑7 in their second and defeated Samoa 22‑12 in their last pool match..

The half time score between Fiji and Samoa was 12 all.
Fiji scored their first try through Terio Tamani in the fourth minute to give them a 5‑nil lead.
Samoa replied a minute after with a try from Tomasi Alasio levelling the points at 5‑all.
Within the last minute of the first half, current series top try scorer Alasio Naduva raced away in the corner for Fiji’s second try to extend their lead to 12‑5.
Samoa’s, Joe Perez scored at the halftime mark from a penalty against Josua Vakurinabili.

Vilimoni Botitu scored a try in the corner in the second half which slowly helped them escape the Samoans on the score board.
Samoa failed to keep possession after the kickoff which saw Kalione Nasoko going in for a try extending their lead and sealing the win for Fiji at 22‑12.
Naduva thanked the fans for coming out in numbers adding they are ready for today.
Meanwhile, Vilimoni Botitu is currently second in the list for the DHL Performance Tracker following the conclusion of day one whereby Canada’s Connor Braid is currently at number 1.

In other quarterfinals, New Zealand will take on France at 1.38pm, South Africa will face England in the third quarterfinal at 2.00pm while USA will take on Spain in the last quarterfinal at 2.22pm.
The semifinals will kick off at 5.16pm and the final will start at 9.56 tonight.
