Fiji to meet Australia in quarters
After failing to settle early in the game, Fiji came back slowly and found their rhythm with a brilliant try to Jasa Veremalua before Samisoni Viriviri touched down under the posts after being set up by Nadroga's Sakiusa Gavidi.
Canada came back firing early in the second half with a try but Ilai Tinai and Ulaiasi Lawavou sealed the game for the Fiji with a try each.
Speaking from Hong Kong Stadium after the game Coach Alifereti Dere said he is satisfied with their performance compared to the first two games against Hong Kong and Spain.
Dere added that now the players have to step up if they want to retain the title.
Dere also said that vice-captain Osea Kolinisau will start from the bench after copping two yellow cards.
Fiji defeated Hong Kong 36-0 in their first pool match before a scrappy 22-12 win over Spain.
In other quarterfinals, at 3:48pm Wales will meet Canada, at 4:09pm Portugal will face Kenya and New Zealand will tackle Samoa at 4:51pm.
Meanwhile in other results from last night, Samoa drew 12-12 with Scotland, Australia beat Argentina 12-5, Kenya defeated France 19-17, South Africa thrashed Wales 31-0, New Zealand beat USA 24-12 and South Africa thrashed Wales 31-0.
The Cup Semifinal will start at 8.06pm and the cup final will kick-off at 11pm.
