In last bid to test the speed and stamina of the Digicel Fiji Sevens players, the coaches have decided to have a warm up match against arch rivals Samoa this afternoon in Hong Kong.
Assistant coach Josateki Savou said the Samoan team always tests Fiji and this will be a great opportunity to give the boys a good test ahead of the tournament proper tomorrow.
Meanwhile, defending Hong Kong 7s champion Samoa has taken a new approach to this year’s tournament that kicks off at So Kon Po stadium tomorrow night.
Coach Stephen Betham said the tournament is so tense and it is hard as defending champion, so he has decided to take a relaxed mode this time round.
However, Betham added that all the top teams vying for the title know that they have to win in Hong Kong or they will struggle in the latter part of the series.
The Hong Kong 7s kicks off at 8:30pm tomorrow, with Fiji’s first pool game against Malaysia at 9:14pm and at 9:36pm, Samoa take on Mexico.
