The Vodafone Fiji 7s team has defeated France 31-7 in their last pool match to book another quarterfinal clash with New Zealand today.
After losing to Wales, the national side showed a lot of improvements on their defence as they scored five tries to one to outclass the French side.
Jerry Tuwai and Joeli Lutumailagi scored Fiji’s tries in the first half as they led 14-0 at half time.
The second half saw Kalione Nasoko scoring the first try followed by tries to Nacanieli Labalaba and Samisoni Viriviri.
Meanwhile Emosi Mulevoro has been ruled out due to a hamstring injury he suffered from their loss to Wales.
Fiji will meet New Zealand at 1.20pm today in the second quarterfinal.
Should Fiji win their quarters, they will either meet Argentina or England in the semis.
Meanwhile the Cup quarterfinals will kick-off at 12.58pm where Argentina will take on England, South Africa will face USA while Australia will meet Wales.
The semis will start at 4.53pm while the final will kick off at 7.51pm.
The Telecom Fijiana 7s team has finished fifth in the Sydney 7s women’s competition beating France 31 12 in the fifth place playoff last night.
Fiji’s tries in the match were scored by Viniana Riwai, Rusila Nagasau, Timaima Ravisa, Priscilla Siata and Raijeli Daveau.
Fijiana qualified for the fifth place playoff after defeating Russia 33 19 in the fifth place playoff semifinal.
Meanwhile, Canada defeated USA 21-17 in the Sydney 7s women’s final.
New Zealand defeated Australia 19 0 in the third place playoff.
The Fijiana 7s team is now fourth on the HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series standings with 24 points.
New Zealand lead the standing with 36 points, second is Australia with 32 points while Canada sit in third place with 30 points.
