The Vodafone Fiji 7s team beat Australia in a hard fought 14-5 clash of their last pool match of the New Zealand 7s.
The Fiji 7s team started strongly scoring the first try of the match to Semi Kunatani to lead 7‑nil.
A few minutes later, the side scored their second try to Samisoni Viriviri to increase their lead to 14-nil.
Australia applied pressure in the last few minutes of the first half with ball in hand but could not rattle Fiji’s defence.
Fiji started the second half by applying pressure but could not finish off with a try as their passes did not connect well.
Australia had the last say of the match scoring in the dying stage.
The final score: Fiji 14 Australia 5
The Vodafone Fiji 7s team is also through to the Cup quarterfinals of the New Zealand 7s and will meet England at 12.49pm.
In the other Cup quarterfinals, USA will meet Scotland at 12.28pm, Kenya will face South Africa at 1.10pm and New Zealand will take on Australia at 1.31pm.
Earlier today, Fiji beat Wales 42-19 and also beat Portugal 31-19.
The Cup quarterfinals will start at 12.28pm tomorrow, the Cup semifinals will be at 4.12pm while the Cup final kicks off at 7.55pm tomorrow.
