After a strong outing yesterday, Coach Gareth Baber says he is pleased with the performance of the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team.
Fiji started off their Sydney 7s campaign on a high after thumping Samoa 31-5 in their first pool match last night.
The national side scored five tries with debutant Alosio Naduva scoring his first try as well.
Fiji was leading 14-5 in the first half with tries from Amenoni Nasilasila and Mesulame Kunavula.
Coach Gareth Baber’s message at halftime was to maintain their defensive line.
Fiji continued their momentum in the second half with tries to Josua Vakurinabili, Eroni Sau and Naduva.
Speaking from Sydney after Samoa’s game, Baber says he was pleased with their performance.
Looking at other results, England beat Spain 22-10, defending champion South Africa thrashed Papua New Guinea 50-0, France beat Wales 31-12, Argentina edged Kenya 7-5, New Zealand thumped Russia 61-0, Australia beat USA 26-19 while Scotland thrashed Canada 52-5.
The national side will now take on Russia in their second pool match at 5.09pm today before taking on New Zealand at 8.42pm tonight.
The quarterfinals will start at 12.28pm tomorrow, the semifinals are at 6.36pm while the final will kick off at 9.48pm tomorrow.
South Africa is the defending champion of the Sydney 7s.
