Fiji through to semis
Osea Kolinisau opened the scoring in the last minute of the first half.
In the second half Waisale Beci scored Fiji's second try when they counter attacked from their own try-line for Fiji to lead 14-nil.
South Africa scored with a minute left for a 14-5 lead for the Fiji team.
Jerry Burotu added another try at the stroke of fulltime for Fiji to win 21-5.
Fiji will play England in the second semifinal at 7pm.
Manager Alifereti Malo said Coach Iliesa Tanivula told the players after the match that they would have to lift their game against England.
Malo adds England has a lot of new players in their side which will make it difficult to beat them in the semifinal.
England Coach Ben Ryan said they cannot rely on last year's win against Fiji in the quarter final this evening.
Ryan believes it is a new season and Fiji is a team to beat in this tournament.
In the first quarter finals New Zealand defeated Australia 24-12.
They led 19-5 at halftime.
In the second quarter finals, Samoa played a catch up game against Kenya where they came from behind to win 14-12.
Kenya was leading Samoa 12-nil at halftime but Lolo Lui scored two converted tries for them to book a semifinal spot against New Zealand.
Defending champions England thumped Canada 31-nil in the third quarterfinal.
The Ben Ryan coached side only led 7-nil at halftime but scored four unanswered try in the second half.
New Zealand will play Samoa in the first semifinal at 6.35pm while Fiji will play England at 7pm.
The finals of the NZ sevens tournament will be at 9pm.
