The Vodafone Fiji 7s team thrashed Hong Kong 40‑0 in their first pool match of the Singapore 7s.

The national side scored a total of six tries with Waisea Nacuqu crossing over the white wash twice in the first half time.

Nacanieli Labalaba scored Fiji’s third try in the first half as Fiji led 19‑0 at half time.

Coach Gareth Baber made five changes in the second half with Isake Katonibau, Josua Vici, Amenoni Nasilasila, Setareki Bituniyata and Sevuloni Mocenacagi all getting a taste of the first pool match.

Fiji continued their dominance on defense forcing Hong Kong to commit errors.

Mesulame Kunavula scored the fourth try from an offload from Nacuqu while the other tires were scored by Amenoni Nasilasila and Mocenacagi.

Fiji’s second game is against Russia at 7.50 tonight and their final pool match is against Canada at 12.06am tomorrow.

The quarters will kick off at 4.30pm tomorrow, the semis will start at 9.10pm tomorrow while the Gold Medal Final will kick off at 12.20am Monday.

Barring any upsets, Fiji is expected to face New Zealand, USA or Wales in the Medal quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, in other matches played today, defending champions of the Singapore 7's, Kenya defeated Argentina 22-7, Australia beat Samoa 19-12, France upset England 24-14, South Africa thumped Japan 52-nil and Canada beat Russia 28-15.
