The Digicel Fiji Sevens team suffered an embarrassing 15 12 defeat by Argentina in the cup quarter final of the South Africa Sevens tournament.

Argentina kicked a last minute penalty drop goal to win and record their first victory against Fiji since May 2010.

Fiji toiled hard in a dull encounter scoring two tries to Joji Ragamate and Setefano Cakau but failed to stamp their authority in the game.

Fiji will play Portugal in the plate semifinal.

Meanwhile, South Africa will face New Zealand in the first Cup semi final as they beat USA 17-7 and Series leaders New Zealand beat reigning Sevens world champions Wales 35 5.

France will play Argentina in the second semi final after beating Portugal 10-7.
