A group of Fiji students studying in India were conned of 42,000 rupees equivalent to over $1,800 Fiji after they were conned by a bogus email.

According India Police the email said they had won a US lottery and needed to deposit 42,000 rupees in an Axis Bank account.

However, a few students who deposited the amount did not get the promised money.

Later the students lodged a complaint with the Police who were able to arrest a student from the Indian province of Manipur for allegedly duping foreign students studying in Uttar Pradesh through an Internet fraud.

The 20 year old student was sent to a 14 day judicial custody.
