Fiji kicked off their Pacific Nations cup campaign with a win last night.

The Flying Fijians managed to beat defending PNC champions Japan 25-19 and it was Inoke Male's first win as national coach.

Fiji scored three tries to debutants and national sevens reps Aisake Katonibau and Waisea Naiyacalevu while France based Vereniki Goneva scored the third try.

Lautoka first five eighth Setareki Koroilagilagi kicked two conversions and two penalties.

The national side conceded eight penalties in the first half and later in the second half the referee awarded a penalty try to Japan.

Flying Fijians captain Netani Talei said that they knew how Japan would play.


In another PNC match Samoa defeated Tonga in a close game 20-18.

Fiji will meet Samoa at 3:10pm in their next game on Sunday.
