Fiji Men’s weightlifting team has started on a high note at the 2016 Oceania Weightlifting Championship last night.
They scooped 3 gold medals and 1 bronze medal in the opening round of the competition.
Fiji’s Manueli Tulo won gold in the Men’s senior 56kg, Nauru took silver while Poama Qaqa of Fiji won bronze.
Tulo was not satisfied with his performance although he won gold.
Tulo dedicated the win to his wife who gave birth to their second child on Monday.
In the Men’s Youth 56kg category, Fiji’s Poama Qaqa won gold while Kuaaba Tibwere of Kiribati won silver.
Sitiveni Timi of Fiji also won gold in the Men’s 56kg Junior category.
More than 200 weightlifters and sporting delegates from 19 countries are in Suva for the 2016 Oceania Weightlifting Championships.
The competition will continue today at the Vodafone Arena and the entry fee is $5.
Children below the age of 12 will get free entry.
