It is a challenge for Fiji's economy to try and find ways to try increase its labour productivity after findings from the Training and Productivity Authority of Fiji shows, that an average of 7 years from 2000 to 2006, the labour productivity growth averaged at a low 0.05 percent.

TPAF Director, Jone Usamate said this low productivity is attributed to factors such as skills, low innovation and investment, which is predominant in our economy system, and quick action has to be taken to improve Fiji's labour productivity.

Usamate added that one of the vital points to note is that in the year 2000, both national and sectoral growth of labour productivity was negative arising from a number of factors including political instability.
