Fiji's Foreign Minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola has told leaders attending the United Nations conference in New York that Fiji is on track to achieve five of the eight Millennium Development Goals.

A UN General Assembly session is currently underway to review progress towards achieving some of the goals.

Kubuabola said the Millennium Development Goals have been integrated into the People's Charter and the Roadmap to elections.

However, he said it will be a major challenge for Fiji to meet three of the goals - eradicating extreme poverty, promote gender equality, combating HIV/AIDS and other diseases.

Meanwhile Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama leaves for New York today to attend the UN General Assembly.

He is expected to return to the country early next month.
