Vodafone Flying Fijians coach John McKee says Fiji needs more Test matches against Tier 1 nations on a more consistent basis if they are to advance their standing in the world game while they are also looking to improve their scrum performance.

McKee says that while there were limited opportunities with the international windows it was a priority to get more Tier 1 matches closer to World Cups in order to better prepare Fiji for taking on top teams.

He adds that they will first focus on qualifying for the next Rugby World Cup in 2019.

Since taking up the Fiji role, McKee has been working on getting the side's set piece up to a competitive standard.

Central to that success has been the technical expertise available to the side, including the use of Alan Muir, the former Wellington coach who has been concentrating on scrum coaching.
