Fiji loses to USA in Plate semis
Fiji was starved of possession as USA ran in four tries to claim their biggest ever victory over Fiji.
Samisoni Viriviri scored Fiji’s only try.
Fiji lost in the Cup quarterfinals 15-12 to England in extra time last night.
England led 12-7 just seconds away from full time before Joji Ragamate ran in for his second try to take the game into extra time.
Ragamate then turned from hero to villain after taking a tap just five metres away from Fiji’s try line before conceding a penalty in front of the uprights giving Christian Lewis Pratt the opportunity kick the penalty goal for England.
In the Cup quarterfinals, South Africa beat USA 22-5, Wales defeated Canada 26-7 and New Zealand thrashed Canada 42-10.
In the Cup semifinals, South Africa beat England 24-17 and New Zealand defeated Wales 26-14.
Meanwhile, South Africa defeated New Zealand 28-21 in the Cup final to claim their third title of the season.
South Africa also becomes the first team this season to claim a back-to-back victory after winning the Japan 7s in March.
New Zealand has now won their 11th World Series overall title even with the England 7s remaining in the series as they now have 151 points which is 29 points clear of the second placed team South Africa who have 122 points.
Fiji is in third place with 108 points and Samoa is in fourth with 99 points followed by Kenya with 84 points.
The Digicel Fiji 7s team has been drawn in a pool of death this weekend in England as they will meet Samoa, England and Argentina.
Fiji takes on England at 9.58pm Saturday.
We then take on Argentina at 2.40am Sunday and our last pool mach is against Samoa at 4.03am Sunday.
